Advice on Dating a Divorced Man with Kids
Dating a divorced man with kids has its benefits. Divorced guys with kids can be loving, fun, and reliable. Divorced men tend to have their shit together. They are responsible and can commit. These are all fantastic benefits.
But, there are challenges to dating a divorced man with kids.
10 Challenges of Dating a Divorced Man with Kids
Below are 10 challenges of dating a divorced man in his early-to-mid 40s, especially if he had a stay-at-home wife.
1. A Divorced Man May Take You For Granted
If a divorced man had a stay at home wife he may be used to someone catering to his needs and he may take you for granted.
2. A Divorced Man Be Self-Centered
If you are dating a divorced guy and he seems to be too into himself, run girl!
3. A Man with a Stay at Home Wife May Be Spoiled
A divorced man who had a stay-at-home wife likely had his every need catered to. She probably made dinner every night, did the laundry, made the kids’ lunches, and cleaned the house.
If you have a career, a guy who had a stay-at-home wife may not be a great fit for you. You likely expect a man to share at least some of the housework with you. A divorced man with kids may be spoiled if he had a marriage where his wife took on all the responsibilities at home.
4. A Divorced Guy with a Stay at Home Wife May Have Off-Loaded Child-Rearing Responsibilities
Kids are a lot of work.
If a divorced guy doesn’t seem to have helped his wife raise the kids, run.
5. A Divorced Man May Not Want You
This hurts. But ladies – you need to hear it. If you are in your early 30s, a divorced man in his early to mid 40s likely doesn’t want a long-term relationship with you. I’ll say it again. He Does Not Want You.
Why does a divorced man in his 40s NOT want a 30-year old female with no kids?
A divorced man in his early to mid 40s doesn’t want a relationship with a 30-year old woman because he can do better. This is especially true if the divorced guy is decently attractive and has money.
Here’s who a 40-year old, divorced man would rather date or marry:
1) A Single Mom: A single mom will be happy to cater to a divorced man's every need and take care of the kids. In exchange, she'll get to marry a wealthy man and spend his money. She’ll be just like the divorced mans’ ex-wife.
2) A Young Women When He's In His 50s: Once a man reaches his early 50s, he’ll be done living up the single life. He’ll realize, “Why did I work so hard my entire life? I want to travel and have fun!” By his 50s, his kids will be in college. He’ll want a hot, younger woman to travel with. Believe me – this happens a LOT. I've seen it. By the age of 50, some divorced men change their mind about kids too. A man in his late 40s or early 50s realizes that kids are often part of the package with younger women.
6. A Divorced Guy with Kids Won’t Prioritize You
A divorced guy with kids won’t prioritize you. His priority will be his kids, himself, and THEN you.
Ask yourself: In an ideal relationship, do I really want to be someone’s last priority?
The phrase, “happy wife, happy life” exists for a reason. For a happy marriage, you need to be your spouse’s first priority.
7. A Divorced Man May Leave You Questioning Your Worth
If you are dating a divorced man and he doesn’t treat you with respect, walk away.
If a divorced man has you questioning yourself in a relationship, run!
8. He May Not Care About Your Feelings if His Ex Had No Spine
Unfortunately, if a man had a stay-at-home wife with young kids, his ex-wife was probably hesitant to speak up. Since many stay-at-home moms are dependent on their husbands for money, it is hard for them to walk away from a bad relationship. It’s even harder if a woman has young kids at home. This means that a stay-at-home mom may be quiet and keep her pain to herself, because she doesn’t want to upset her husband.
Ladies: this is a super dangerous situation to be in. If you tell a man, “that hurt my feelings,” and he doesn’t apologize, run!!
Dating tip for women: If a guy hurts your feelings, try saying “ouch.” It’s great way to let a guy know that he hurt your feelings without placing blame.
9. He Doesn’t Want to Build a Family with You
If you are in your 30s and want kids – stick to your guns. Don’t compromise. Think about what you want in life. Do you want to build a family? Do you want kids of your own?
If yes, find a guy that will be delighted to have kids with you. If you love someone, you want to give them what will make them happy.
10. He May Belittle Your Accomplishments
If a guy doesn’t say, “Congrats!” when you have a success at work, move on and run!
